About Kathy Ferguson
On a Personal Note:
Formerly a Michigan resident, my husband and I moved to Florida in 2000. We love the Sarasota area and everything it has to offer. It's a great place to live and work. We have two grown sons. Eric lives outside of Chicago with his wife, Tamara, and Nick, lives in Sarasota, with his wife Sara. My faithful sidekick, Harley, (a Silky Terrier) goes with me whenever he is allowed and loves to ride in the car, anywhere, anytime.
I love a travel adventure, a sailing vacation, listening to all kinds of music, reading a good mystery or biography, sharing good food and wine with family and friends or simply spending time outdoors. My husband and I are certified scuba divers and enjoy diving in tropical places. Although we learned to dive in the cold waters of "up north", I prefer warm water these days. Having lived in northern Michigan for most of my life, I still like to experience the snow and cold for brief periods of time. So. . . for a week or two in the winter, skiing and snowmobiling in Colorado give me enough snow and cold weather to last me until the next year.
My first career was as an elementary school teacher where I taught kindergarten, which requires great patience, and middle school, which requires even greater patience. My next career for many years was in the family grocery business in a variety of positions including store manager and director of human resources. With 24 years of experience as a business owner, I learned many valuable skills including the importance of keeping customers and associates well informed, attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
During the family business-phase I devoted a lot of time to organizations as a board member for the Chamber of Commerce, Gratiot Community Hospital , Pine River Country Club, Mid-Michigan Community College Foundation, Clare County Community Foundation and industry-related groups such as the Michigan Grocer's Association and Spartan Stores Retail Advisory Board, to name a few. I was appointed by the Governor of Michgan, John Engler, to a seat on the Michigan Wine and Grape Industry Council. After selling the family business, I moved to Florida and soon found myself in real estate school, looking to find success in a new career. I have had my real estate license since 2004.
